Head of Country Development, Project Kuiper, Amazon

Lisa Scalpone is Head of Country Development for Project Kuiper at Amazon and is responsible for Project Kuiper’s global planning and country operations. Prior to Amazon, Lisa was Vice President and General Manager at Viasat, a California-based satellite telecommunications company. In that role, Lisa was responsible for Viasat’s satellite internet business in the US, and later in Brazil and Latin America. Lisa has been in the satellite internet industry since its inception, starting as one of the first employees of Colorado startup WildBlue Communications in 2001 through its sale to Viasat as an satellite ISP with over 400,000 customers across the U.S.

 

Her industry activities have raised the profile of satellite broadband on local and national levels.  In 2014, she was appointed by Governor Hickenlooper to serve on Colorado’s Broadband Deployment Board.  She has represented the satellite broadband industry in numerous public forums, including the FCC’s USF Workshop, the NARUC Summer Conference, NTIA Public Meetings and the Latin America Satellite Congress in Rio de Janeiro.

 

Prior to working in the satellite industry, she practiced corporate law with McDermott, Will & Emery and clerked for a federal judge in Chicago. She graduated with a BS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and cum laude from Loyola University of Chicago School
of Law.
