Jennifer Hightower


Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary Cox Enterprise

As senior vice president, Jennifer Hightower oversees Cox’s three legal teams ensuring oversight of compliance, legal operations, employment, investments, litigation, regulatory and privacy affairs, and corporate governance. She advises on policy and strategic initiatives related to Cox’s lines of business.


Prior to her current role, Hightower was Sr Vice President and General Counsel of Cox Communications where she oversaw the divisions of regulatory affairs, government affairs, legal operations and compliance with federal and state rules and regulations, and managed external relationships with other communications providers. Hightower joined Cox Communications in 1997 as legal counsel and later was promoted to assistant general counsel and then Vice President Regulatory Affairs. Prior to joining Cox, she served in various legal positions at BellSouth Corporation, RaceTrac Petroleum, Inc. and Drew, Eckl & Farnham.


In 2005, Hightower was honored as one of the Rising SuperStar Attorneys in Georgia and in 2007 was named a Georgia Legal SuperStar. Hightower received the Southeast Mentor of the Year Award for the Georgia Women in Cable and Telecommunications (WICT) Chapter in 2010. She also received WICT’s Woman to Watch Award in September 2012. She received the Multichannel New Organizations Woman to Watch Award in 2014. In 2016, Hightower’s team at Cox received an award as Atlanta Business Chronicles’ Outstanding General Counsel for Large Legal Departments.


Hightower has served as chair of the Georgia Federal Bar Association from 2003 to 2005 and again from 2010 to 2012. Additionally, she has served on the board of the WICT Southeast chapter from 2004 through 2006 and is currently a member of WICT’s national board. She is also a graduate of Betsy Magness Leadership Institute Class XVI and was co-chair for the 2008-2009 BMLI Class. Hightower has also served on the boards of Callanwolde School of Fine Arts, Piedmont Park Board, and is the retiring Chair of the Atlanta Woman’s Foundation Board of Directors and the Greater Metro Atlanta YMCA board. Hightower is also a Leadership Atlanta alumnus.


Hightower is admitted to practice in Kentucky and Georgia, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, and her bachelor’s degree in political science from Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. She is the wife of an entrepreneur and the mom of three active boys.
